In Memoriam: Adam Halstead

We mourn the loss of Adam Halstead, Service Line Director for Research & Clinical Application Development, who passed away on December 4.

Adam had worked in IT at SMPH since 2012, initially with the Department of Medicine, where he led the Software Development and Informatics team for more than a decade. In that role, he oversaw projects that advanced research, education, and business operations through innovative software and data solutions. As part of IIT, Adam has served a key role in redefining the approach we are taking to application development for research and clinical systems.

Adam was widely respected for his leadership and technical expertise. His career reflected a deep passion for the intersection of technology and healthcare. Before joining SMPH, Adam held technology leadership roles in the private sector, earned a master’s degree in Digital Biology, and was pursuing a PhD in Biomedical Health Informatics. He also contributed to campus-wide efforts as a member of the Committee on Access and Accommodation in Instruction.

Adam’s dedication to creating robust, meaningful informatics solutions was highlighted in this 2018 DoM profile. In it, Adam shared how his work gave him “a very clear sense of purpose” and how deeply rewarding it was to deliver projects that positively impacted research and patient care.

Adam’s vision and dedication have made a lasting impact on our institution. He will be deeply missed by those who had the privilege to work alongside him.

Our thoughts are with Adam’s family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.
The passing of a member of our community is always hard to understand and accept. Please take care of yourselves and those around you.

A service for Adam will be held on Saturday, December 13. For more information, https://www.cressfuneralservice.com/obituaries/adam-halstead.
