Extending the life of your laptop battery

Laptop Battery Failures and Degradation
-Extending the life of your laptop battery

Based on Dell’s recommendation to reduce the large number of failed and degraded laptop batteries, we have changed the charging parameters for laptops to start charging at 60% and stop charging at 85% capacity. Dell says that customers who have made these changes have seen a significant reduction of failed and degraded laptop batteries.

A large percentage of our users keep their laptop plugged in for much of the time, resulting in batteries being 100% charged for extended periods of time. This is very harmful for battery life. If you are a user that frequently runs on battery power without being plugged in, and need the extended battery time, please let us know and we can remove your system from this policy.
